Long Knives
"The Fluidity and unification of the toasted tones seem to encompass all the world's emotions in one silent sip that's almost too much to savor. Isn't whiskey great? Many times you've seen a song or it's singers compared to the stuff. This band and this record trump them all. Playing like someone porch-sipping a couple of straight up fingers of the finest whilst scanning the remains of a grey scaled skeleton town after what has come to pass, Long Knives, the debut from Atlanta group of the same name, is the set of songs to match the most palpable of pondering sessions. The record actually comes with a rocking chair and a sturdy glass, which would be perfect if it were true. Sorry, bad economy and all. Slowly rising up like a new dawn, a brief instrumental introduces the steady strumming salvations of "Life In a Dollhouse" where lead man Mike Kane warns, "Outsiders will take your heart and hide it far away/ And fill your head with pretty little lies." And the fiery baptism of acoustics and electrics of "Down To The River" compliments the easy picking of "Elm" and the surrounding steel sweetness of "In the Morning Things Will Be Fine." All and all, it's a sobering experience. Now pass me the bottle one more time." - Nick Margiasso, SKYSCRAPER
